Leukodystrophy, organic foods, live yogurt cultures.
My family heritage includes a genetic immune disorder known as leukodystrophy. Leukodystrophy caused the death of my sister's firstborn son at the age of three years during the late 1960s. Today there are many research and treatment sources for leukodystrophy, including bone marrow transplants. Scientists generally call human heritage survival of the luckiest today. Survival of the fittest is certainly still a determining factor. I was one of the lucky, because my genetic profile skipped over the leukodystrophy disorder. The sister of my sister's husband also had no genetic leukodystrophy, which her brother and my sister both had to have in order to pass on the trait. However, in my own life, I have developed severe allergic responses in particular to foods contaminated with some opportunistic microscopic organisms. For example, aspergillis which had contaminated a jar of peanut butter, from which I ate a tiny teaspoon in 1952, resulted in a life long reaction of huge hives to any peanut product. Organic foods, and especially live yogurt cultures, help me to live a healthy life.
